COVID-19: We have answered some of our customer's most frequently asked questions
With winter right around the corner, now is the perfect time to start getting ready. There are a host of things that will only get more expensive as we move later into the year, and if you can get them sorted now, then not only will you be saving money, but you’ll be saving yourself some stress too.
Now is an ideal time of year to check your home over for leaks, cold spots, cracked slates and other issues that will become difficult to treat once the weather turns. You can save a lot of money by fixing things before a problem grows worse. A solid slate can be the difference between a quick and relatively cheap day’s work by a handyman, or a flooded attic and potentially the need for a new roof. So take a walk around your house and look for dark spots on your walls that might suggest water damage or other issues which need fixing.
Another issue that is best fixed before the cold weather comes is the threat of the problems with your home’s insulation and cold proofing. What is the point of spending a fortune keeping your house warm if you are sending all of that heat out through the walls and roof? Heat rises, so it is imperative to make sure that your roof has plenty of insulation under it, as do any other floor levels in your home.
You should also take care to fill in any gaps that might have developed around your doorways or windows – heat can escape from these, but there are also a host of other issues which can arise from this. Water seeping into your home and pests sneaking in to avoid the colder weather might be the least of it. Putting something around your doorways and windows to keep the heat on the right side of the wall can help make your fuel bills cheaper, and there are a lot of charming options for this. Making draft excluders for doors has taken off in crafting circles, and there are a lot of entertaining tutorials for those who want to have a go.
Speaking of crafting, now is the perfect time to start getting supplies for gifts. Always assume that anything you make by hand will take longer to make than you think; at best, it will give you more time to add some glamour and glitz to your gift, and at worst, it can give you a few extra days to fix what went wrong. By the time people start talking about gifts and adverts start appearing, it will likely be too late to make anything complicated, so get your materials early so that you can get to work soon.
After all, if you start early enough, then you will only need to put a few minutes a day into your gift. Better to do that than have to spend a night stitching something together when you should be sleeping. Your gift will not look better if it is made the day before, rather than a month earlier – in fact, if you are forced to rush, it will probably not be at its best.
Why not try these tips now to ensure you’re as prepped for winter and the festive season as possible?
